2009 Guide to Jury Blogs, Feeds and Publications

In the past I have talked about Deliberations, Anne Reed's excellent blog on juries and jury trials. Anne's most recent post contains her 2009 Guide to jury specific blogs, news feeds and publications. It is worth a look if you are interested in jury selection, focus groups and trial-related research.

The American Society of Trial Consultants’ bimonthly magazine The Jury Expert has well written articles, by trial consultants from a variety of disciplines, on a broad range of issues. The most recent edition has an interesting article on computer generated animation: The Lesser Known Benefits of Forensic Animation.

Politics and Jurors Part II (Democrats v. Republicans) - An All Republican Jury Will Never Award Punitives! Will They?

Patricia McEvoy, Ph. D. is one of the authors of What Does a Juror's Generation Mean to Trial Consultants?, the article discussed in my November 24 post regarding research linking generation and political leaning to attitudes and damages awards. Thanks to Pat for putting me in touch with her colleague Alan M. Tuerkheimer, who authored Politics in Civil Jury Selection, an article just published in the December issue of the Wisconsin Lawyer. One of the take-aways:

"The Zagnoli study found that while political leaning tends to correlate with what jurors say about damages in civil cases, it does not predict whether or how much they actually award. In other words, political leaning is related to what a juror says but not necessarily to what a juror does; thus, political party allegiance should not be too heavily relied on during jury selection."

Anne Reed is a trial lawyer and jury consultant who writes the Deliberations blog. Reed's most recent post focuses on voir dire in the recent OJ Simpson trial and contains links to the actual questionnaires completed by the 12 jurors that decided the case.

Deliberations includes a number of great resources on jury selection, including a library of juror questionnaires from a variety of cases.
